Crochet patterns can be simple or complex. Many considerations such as the yarn, or the type of project you wish to make will determine the pattern you will want to use.

All crochet pattern in the modern sense is begun by placing a slip-knot loopon the hook, pulling another loop through the first loop, and so on to createall the beautiful fabrics.

Crochet patterns could be for ponchos, mittens, hats, sweaters, kitchen clothes or those afghans you simply adore. Crochet stitches are made by pulling one or more loops through each loop of the chain. This method distinguishes crochet from other methods of fabric-making as it is composed entirely of loops and is only secured when the free end of the strand is pulled through the final loop.

Before crocheters used to use thicker yarns to create less delicate clothing and home items for their crochet patterns, though thread crocheting remained more popular around the sixties. The craft remained primarily a homemaker's art until the younger generation picked up on crochet.

Often using granny squares crochet pattern, a motif worked in the round, and incorporating bright colors, these designs became indicative of the era. Although crochet underwent a subsequent decline in popularity, it has recently benefited from a revival of interest in handcrafts among the younger generation.

If you are a scarf lover and do make scarves but hate to cut and tie on fringe, you can instead make an unusual and stylish fringe with crochet. Starting at one corner, crochet a chain twice as long as you want your fringe. Attach it with a slip stitch to the next stitch on the end of the scarf. Repeat until you have a complete fringe across the narrow edge of the scarf. This technique works well in using either the same yarn as the scarf or a coordinating yarn, and makes a wonderful pattern. You are the creator and the magic is in your hands.

The double chain stitch is a wonderful way to begin projects to make any crochet patterns. It's like combining the foundation row and a row of single crochet. Joining pieces and edging them is always a challenge. Edgings can be done for utility or for frills.

Different types of crochet patterns:

Filet crochet : Filet crochet consists of open and closed blocks or meshes. The foundation chain is always three times the number of blocks or meshes in the first row, plus six.

Many simple cross-stitch patterns can be effectively converted to filet crochet and vice versa by filling the design region with solid block and keeping the open mesh to the area of no pattern. Filet crochet looks best if blocked before use to highlight the design. More than one color can be combined in this crochet to make the design "stand" out from the background

Tunisian crochet : In Afghan crochetor Tunisian crochet , each row is worked in two halves: the first half is worked from right to left and the second half from left to right. Work is never turned

Broomstick lace : Broomstick Lace is a form of crochet, although the needle used looks like a very large knitting needle. It is most popularly used for shawls and baby blankets.
