Learn the skills of knitting and crochet.

If you ask any crocheter why they knit crochet they'll probably say because it's the most beautiful and versatile art form. Crochet is the wonderful art of creating fabrics with a single hook and colorful yarns. Remember the crocheted afghan you always adored or the teddy you just would not let go when you were a kid and the table cloth your mom gifted to you last christmas, behind all these creations is the magical art called crochet.

Crochet is a social activity to share with your friends and family. You can sit in a group and knit crochet while you gossip about the latest happenings in each others lives. Even if you are alone knitting crochet will take away your boredom. You would'nt even realize how time would fly. Just find a comfortable chair in good light and begin to knit crochet.

Start Knitting Crochet:

To begin with, you must purchase a needle and some yarn. You should either learn with I, H, or G size hooks. Smaller sizes are harder to manipulate.

Yarn is not difficult. It is better not to start with Chenille or wool. The regular yarn you can find at JoAn Fabrics and other stores is good enough. Also, purchase a light colored yarn to be able to see what you are doing. To test the strength of the yarn, take your thumb and index finger and rub a couple of strands between them. If it frays a lot, don't buy it. Test a few types and you will understand what to choose.

You would also need a good pair of scissors. Not a pair that you would use on anything but your projects. Dull scissors are a crafter's nightmare.

There are a lot of books that you can find on how to knit crochet and how to learn to make different patterns in crochet. Read through the steps before you begin. Some of the popular stitches that you will find in the books are the tulip stitch, transverse stitch and brush stroke stitch. You will also get to learn many different styles of embroidery on crochet.

Crochet patterns:

One of the most recognized crochet patterns is the Granny Square motif. These colorful crocheted squares or circles are joined together to create afghans and vests. At the fall European couture collection, a Granny Wrap was a big hit and was even featured on a cover of Vogue Magazine. So, now you know why you should learn to crochet the granny square motif.

Varying the size of the hook and the thickness of yarn or thread you can extend the range of anything that you think is possible. You can expand your bag of tricks to include mastery of all the different stitches.

There is possibly nothing you can't make happen in crochet. From granny square afghans to fashion doll ball gowns, you would love the naturally tranquil rhythm of knitting as much as you would love to show off and give away your finished masterpieces to your loved ones. Good crochet is like good wine and needs same hard work as put into the wine by the wineries.

Don't wait till next christmas and start to knit crochet. Start today so that by next fall you would have a whole
collection of your crocheted goodies to give as a gift to each and every member of your family and friends.
