Step By Step Instructions to knit the afghan knitting pattern:
1. Cast on 36 stitches for one strip or 72 stitches for two. Cast on 72 stitches only if you are using the variegated yarn or are knitting with only one color, not alternating solid colors every other strip.
2. knit the strips as long as you want (see pattern below). If you are knitting it for a bed you may want measure the bed or lay the afghan strips up against the bed to see how it fits as you are knitting. When you finish a ball of yarn cut off the yarn leaving 5 inches dangling for an end. Start knitting with the new ball and leave a similar to sew in later.
3. When you have knitted the number and length of strips desired it is time to sew in the ends. Insert the yarn through your darning needle and sew it into the side of your strip.
4. When you have finished sewing in the ends it is time to sew your strips together. Lay them side-by-side, matching them up perfectly. Thread your darning needle with the same yarn you were using to knit your afghan and sew your strips together placing your stitches fairly close together.
Knitting Pattern:
1. Knit one row.
2. Purl one row.
3. Pattern Row: K1, K2 together, K6, WF K1, WF K6, K2 together twice, K6, WF K1, WF K6, K2 together, K1)
4. Keep repeating these rows until you reach your desired length.
5. If you end up needing more wool than you originally purchased due to the length you desire buy more, the dye lot will be different but not noticeably in most cases.
